Where Can Hurting Parents Find Help?

*This is a re-post of a blog I wrote a year ago.

If you’re a hurting parent who’s been deeply wounded by your son or daughter’s choices, behaviors and troubles you know how lonely this experience can be.

Broken. Crushed. Hopeless. Bitter. Resentful.

Rejected. Grief-stricken. Heart-sick. Anxiety-ridden. majesty3

Do you see yourself here? Do any of these describe where you’ve been or where you are right now? If so, then I have good news for you. Yes. good. And yes, for. You.

I want you to know about an opportunity to receive ongoing support and encouragement from a parent who’s been in your shoes – in each of those descriptions – who really understands.

From who? From me. I’m the mom of a daughter (now 29) who’s struggled for over ten years with addictions, self-injury (cutting), brain disorders (mental illness) and suicidal tendencies. I know how hard it is to walk this path and keep your sanity.

You feel alone. So misunderstood. Emotionally beat up. Worn out. Sad. Angry. Depleted.

Who can you talk to? Where do you turn for help – not for your child.

Just. for. you.

Not many of us have people to confide in who really get it, who are able to be a voice to offer the words we need to hear. Some do. If that’s you, you are unique and very fortunate. But, if you’re like me, I needed more – especially during the dark days I barely drug myself through.

I hope I can be that voice for you.

I’ve come far. I’m not the same person today. I’ve been blessed to learn a lot from my losses. I now have peace with what I can’t control, strength when I’m weak, courage to let go, acceptance for the unknown future, and ever-deepening trust in a God who’s met me every step of the way. He is the source of the ongoing help I offer you. I wish I’d had this kind of help when I really needed it.

Out of my painful experiences, I write devotional emails to bring hope, encouragement, support and resources to parents like you. You can sign up to receive these free messages through our website: hopeforhurtingparents.com

You choose how often you’d like to receive them: one, three or six days a week.

When you click on the link it will take you to the homepage where you can sign up. Follow the simple instructions. I only need your email address and first name.

This Bible verse has helped me many times. I hope as you read these holy words they will be like healing oil for your heart and soul:

“For I am poor and needy (in spirit), and my heart is wounded within me.

 I fade away . . . I am shaken off . . . my knees give way . . .

 help me, O Lord my God;

save me in accordance with your love.”

(Psalm 109:22-26)

Heavenly Father, please comfort hurting parents who are alone and losing their health (emotional, physical and spiritual) over their child’s painful choices. You understand them more than anyone else. You know what they need. You know their pain. Encourage each one who reads this to know that they don’t have to be alone any more.

In Your Son’s Strong Name.

Amen.

Does your support group only meet on Tuesday nights?

    • Tom and Dena Yohe

I also have one that meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10 to noon, and one that meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays from 10-noon. Let me know if you want more information.
